It’s Official. I’m Off the Market.

The happy couple! I'm wearing my dad's new reading glasses with frickin laser lights!

It only took four and a half years but Jason finally realized that I’m incredibly awesome and he can’t live without me!  We’re engaged!  YAY!!!!  I never realized how much I wanted this to happen until it happened and now that it’s legit I can’t wait to plan our special day.  Jason was a proper gentleman and took my parents to lunch at the Place at Perry’s to ask for permission to marry their daughter.  They were obviously ecstatic and my mom said, “How are you going to propose?!  Don’t put it in food because she’ll eat it.”  Aaah they know me so well.

So, how did he do it?  Well, we’d been doing this surprise date night thing every Friday where we alternate planning a date.  It was Jason’s turn.  He told me he got reservations to a nice restaurant so I had to get dolled up.  So we get dressed up and head out on the town.  My favorite Justin Bieber song came on XM and I cranked it up.  Normally, this would be cause for Jason to pull the car off the road and slam on the brakes and tell me never to touch the radio again.  However, he never said anything and I was able to listen to “You Smile, I Smile” through the entire song.  This was hint number one that something was amiss.  We start to approach downtown when I see we are headed straight for Reunion Tower.  Now I know we’ll be dining at Wolfgang Puck’s Five Sixty restaurant.

I didn’t think anything was too crazy because we’d both wanted to try this restaurant after the big renovation and nothing excites me more than spinning in a circle while I eat.  However, once we sat down, Jason started fidgeting with his shirt sleeves (hint #2).  I kept telling him “You didn’t have to wear long sleeve.  It’s not that cold out.”  But the fidgeting continued.  I didn’t know that this would be such an eventful night so I didn’t take my camera and I have no pictures of dinner or of Jason fidgeting or of me rocking out to Justin Bieber 🙁  My main entree (fish) was awesome but the appetizer (potstickers) had a chewy texture and the dessert (brownie) tasted like chalk.  I kind of feel bad now for complaining during the meal because Jason was trying to make it a perfect night.  And here I am, food critic extraordinaire, whining about a romantic meal.

After dinner we head home and I subtly mention that I have to potty.  I get my iPhone out to go through emails (I’m kind of a big deal) so I didn’t notice when Jason exited early and headed straight for the place we met (former employer).  Well, technically the park across from the place we met.  He said he wanted to get out and walk off dinner for a bit.  Oh it’s okay, I’ll just HOLD IT A BIT LONGER.  Kidding, it wasn’t that bad.  But I did start to wonder why he would want to get out and walk around when I thought I clearly stated that I had to go to the bathroom.  I thought it was cute that he was being romantic so I crossed my legs as we hobbled walked through the park.  After a short lap around the fountain, we sat down for a bit.  He was so nervous and it started to make me nervous.  I knew something was up and deep down I knew what was about to happen but I was kind of in shock and he was kind of in shock so we both sat on the bench in shock.  It was very romantic.  When I think his nerves were about to burst, he said, “well, you ready to go?”  I said, “yep!”  So we started to walk back toward the car when he said, “Wait, one more thing…(got down on his knee)…Will you marry me?”  I immediately started crying and said, “Seriously?  I mean I’m really busy at work but…OKAY!!”  Then the Addison police showed up and shined the spotlight on us.  They saw Jason on one knee and me crying and assumed everything was okay so they continued on.

So now we’re official and the planning has begun!  Can you say destination wedding?
