Not Lame, La Me

I had a pretty intense craving for Bistro B a few weeks ago but Jason was out of town and considers me eating there w/o him as cheating.  It’s understandable.  I was still going to go and just tell him I had a sandwich at home but instead my Dad convinced me to meet him at La Me in the same shopping area as Bistro B.

We started off with the spring rolls since that is a good way to judge if you’re going to like the rest of your meal.  If the spring rolls aren’t solid, then everything else is probably a pho cup.  I am happy to say that these shrimp and pork spring rolls along with dipping sauce were legit.  We actually ordered everything all at once and the waiter was very confused why we were ordering spring rolls.  We didn’t understand why until the rest of the meal came out.

I ordered the grilled pork vermicelli bowl with fish sauce and bonus egg roll.  It was top notch.

My dad looked over at another table and ordered whatever they had because it looked good.  Turns out it was a make your own spring roll dish.  Zoops!  This was pretty awesome even though you have to do the rice paper spring roll stuffing and rolling yourself.  It included Chinese sausage, grilled pork, chicken vermicelli noodles, green onion, peanuts, fish sauce and egg rolls.

It also came with a plate of veg – lettuce, cilantro, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, thai basil and daikon.

They give you a bowl of warm water and a plate of rice paper.  Please note that there are no instructions so if you are a giant N00b like us, you might want to ask how it’s done first.

Somehow my dad made it work although I was crackin up laffin at his attempts.

We won’t give him any points for plating or presentation but at least he got to play with his food like he was 5 again.

I am definitely going to go back to La Me and I might even convince Jason to try it out instead of Bistro B next time.  While we were there they prepared tons of banh mi’s with fresh baked bread straight out of the oven in the front of the store.  They looked awesome and were cheap so I’ll probably order a dozen of those next time.  I’m phat.

I never been here! Someone take away my Asian card. I love Viet food though, but if we’re gonna drive our asses all the way to that shopping strip in GG (ghetto garland) we’ll have Bistro B or that one Chinese place there that has BAD ASS sea bass, SERIOUSLY it’s the shizzle you MUST TRY ONE DAY.
