Family Reunion!

by sara on September 29, 2012

We woke up to freshly baked cinnamon rolls with orange flavored icing on Sunday morning.  Nothing will get me out of bed faster than the smell of cinnamon rolls.  Except someone turning the ceiling fan on full blast and cranking up Nickelback.

Annie was pretty excited about cinnamon roll time toos!

Once we had breakfast in our tummies, we hit the road for the two hour drive to Tulsa for Jason’s family reunion.  It is held every year but since we live 5 hours away, there is an understood agreement that we are only obligated to attend every two years.  If they move it to Vegas or, I don’t know, anywhere other than Oklahoma, we might renegotiate.  The reunion is held at Chandler Park which has 192 acres of “natural beauty.”

We were tardy to the party so everyone was waiting on us to start eating.  I was excited to check out the food offerings but when I saw discounted generic chocolate chip cookie cake from the grocery store I started to get worried.  Maybe I should have had that 5th cinnamon roll to tide me over until dinner.

Jason only knows about 4 people total (including his mom) out of about 50 people that attend the reunion.  I think it’s a combination of living in Dallas, too much time on the Internet, and truly believing he is the 5th Kardashian kid.  What he doesn’t realize is that he has big time winners in his family including this kid who won first place with his prize bull at the county fair.  It was seriously adorable because he was so proud to show off the trophy.  I was just excited to finally have a resource to tell me the difference between a cow and a bull.  He thought I was joking.

This is Jason’s grandfather.  He is quite a stud and a very sweet man.  We sent him a basket of goodies about 6 months ago and he’s raved about it ever since and thanked us about 10 times.  I don’t know if that means he wants us to send him more cookies or if he’s just really thankful.  Just in case we better send him more treats.

Yep, Walmart sells fried chicken.  I didn’t know either.  Kinda wish I still didn’t know.  Apparently it tasted like it looked if you can believe that!

Someone stopped at KFC for biscuits!  Yum!

Someone else saved $3.39 on an OSU cookie cake with icing!

Someone else tried to make potato salad and accidentally threw whole hard boiled eggs in!

Here was my plate.  One of his aunts (who lives in Austin)(got out of Oklahoma) made tabbouleh and it was delicious!

I drank a lot of Sierra Mist so I excused myself and headed over to the park restrooms.  With no doors.  WITH NO DOORS.  I HAVE A QUESTION.  WHY ARE THERE NO DOORS?  Don’t answer that.  I held it.

They didn’t have soap either.  Recession I guess.

Jason was proud to show off his native state.

I was glad Jason got to see his grandfather and wish we had spent more time with him.  I didn’t even get to show him the 4,751 pictures of Enzo & Riley on my phone!
