Hopdoddy Burger Bar

I ventured into the Park Cities bubble on Friday to have lunch with my Daddy at Hopdoddy.  It’s so exciting to have so many cool Austin places come to Dallas!  They may have shirts that say “Don’t Dallas My Austin” but I would proudly wear a shirt that says “Please Austin my Dallas.”

Hopdoddy is located in Preston Center (NW Hwy/Preston Rd) in the old 24 hour Fitness location.  They grind their own meat, hand cut their own Kinnebec potatoes, and their buns are made from scratch and baked fresh twice daily.  They had me at grinding their own meat.

They have a full bar with tons of beers on tap and plenty of big screens to watch those beloved SMU Mustangs or UT Longhorns.

There is even a picture of good ol’ Willie Nelson on the wall.

My brother highly recommended the bison burger but I was feeling something less furry so I ordered the Ahi Tuna Burger (Sushi-Grade Tuna, Sprouts, Teriyaki, Honey Wasabi, Nori Chips, Pickled Ginger, Mayo).

The nori chip was the key ingredient on this burger because of the nice crunch but all of the parts worked so well together.  It is safe to say this is my new favorite burger.

My Dad is now down under 240 lbs (from 289) and we were celebrating his big win at the doctor’s office.  He is officially off cholesterol medicine.  He ain’t got time for Obamacare (or bronchitis).  Sticking with his theme of eating mostly healthy food, he ordered the Janis Joplin veggie burger (Hemp Seed Veggie Patty, Avocado, Sprouts, Tillamook Cheddar, Horseradish Honey Mustard).  The burger crumbled apart when he bit into it but he said it was absolutely delicious and would definitely get it again.

Low cholesterol is hard to maintain if you don’t sometimes order fries with green chile queso.  I’ve never dipped fries in queso before but it grew on me and I kinda liked it.  The queso was pretty rich so the small cup they serve is the perfect size.  I really wanted to try their salted caramel shake but I also didn’t want a third chin so I refrained.  Overall, Hopdoddy was on and poppin.  My only complaint was the weirdness of ordering at the counter and then having a waitress.  There was a tip jar at the order counter and then we felt we had to tip our waitress too.  If it is self serve, let us serve ourself!  Quit Dallasing our Austin-Dallas!

After lunch we met my cousin over at my grandmother’s assisted living home (we call it the country club but she giggles and knows better).  Mamaw was in rare form so we decided to take her out for a shake.  We found a football in the parking lot so we gave it to her and she practiced her form in the back seat.  You guys should probably pick her for your Fantasy Football team if you want points.

Mamaw first tried to drink the milkshake through the spoon but quickly realized that a straw works better for that.

Then she got all sassy with the spoon and told it what to do with itself.  I love this woman.

Dallas will never be Austin & shouldn’t try so hard to be Austiny. If Austin is all about uniqueness why is everything Austin opening up in Dallas? Is Dallas to Shops of Legacy as Austin is to Uptown?

I’ve tried the place and obviously didn’t order right…..cause I just didn’t see the
attraction. yes we tried the queso-dip’t-fries, but it was too thick and my fries broke in half while trying to dip’t ’em.
maybe I shud get a wild hair and go for this crazee veggie burger Ffej seems to like
so much……p.s. is it against the law to put mayo on a veggie burger?
